Evidence of, Not a Formula for

“If we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved.” Confessing and believing are evidence of faith in Christ—which immediately saves us—not some mechanical formula to trigger salvation. Within the context of Romans, they are the outward expression of a deeper, living reality. It is by God’s grace that the word of faith is near us, in our mouths and in our hearts, a faith that comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
