Notes from Pastor B

On Maundy Thursday, April 17, we will have healing prayer in conjunction with the Lord’s Supper. Forty percent of the Gospel of Matthew and Mark, and about a third of Luke and John focus on healing. Jesus treated sickness as the enemy and sent out his disciples to heal the sick as well as preach the Gospel. The ministry of healing is part of Christ’s promises and good news!

With our prayer teams, one can pray for healing of a relationship, for an emotional or spiritual struggle one is going through, for discernment in a challenge, for physical healing–God has gifted pray-ers within our congregational community to give voice on your behalf and be a conduit of peace and confidence in God.

After communing at the Lord’s Table on Maundy Thursday, if you would like individual prayer for any need, you are invited to one of the prayer stations in the narthex (foyer). A pray-er will anoint you with oil as a remembrance of baptism and ask if there is a specific concern you would like to bring before the Lord.

Sometimes we aren’t sure what to ask for, or how to use the right words, but the Holy Spirit knows our need. Focus your heart on the reality of God’s Person and presence. Although feelings are not wrong when they accompany a genuine work of the Holy Spirit, neither are they the absolute indicators of God’s presence or proof of God’s extravagant love for us. Ultimately, we rely on the unchanging promises of the Scriptures and the finished work of Christ on the cross and the open tomb. God’s blessings to you this upcoming Holy Week, and on this time of communing at the Lord’s Table and in prayer, encountering the healing presence of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
